Two events which normally slow the property market to a stop, an election and Christmas, have this year had the opposite effect. The property market had been in the doldrums for the last 18 months with increased selling times and downward pressure on prices. From 1st October however, sales have increased and in increasing number of purchasers as well as vendors have come to the market. Properties coming to the market have in many instances gone straight under offer and there is now some upward pressure on prices. Inflation elsewhere in the economy may well transfer to the property market.
